In the contemporary landscape, care is an act of profound significance tied to the essence of our existence. "Care is Art, Art is Care" encapsulates the symbiotic relationship between artistic expression and the ethos of care. It posits that care, in all its forms—whether directed towards the environment, communities, or oneself—transcends mere action to become a form of art. Conversely, art becomes a vehicle for care, a medium through which empathy, responsibility, and interconnectedness are communicated and practiced. This exhibition explores this fluid interchange, asserting that caring for the world and its inhabitants is not only necessary but inherently creative and deeply transformative. Artists: Shelly Maye, Rosalind Lowry, Molly Wickett, Mark Lawson Bell, Liangchen Sui, Sangwon Jo, Franz Petto, Bethan Hamilto, Cemre Nomer, Chelsea Ning, Bhavani Esapathi, Alexandria Zlatar and Thasil Suhara Backer. The narrative weaved through this virtual exhibition strives to emphasise these connections, demonstrating how care transcends individual actions and becomes a collective narrative. Curated by Joana Alarcão (Insights of an Eco Artist) with immersive virtual world developed by Amy Jiang and Effy Ma (Underground Art And Design).

”Alterity,“ from the Latin ”Alteritas,“ signifies the state of being other or different. The prefix ”Alt“ suggests ”alternative,“ one of the derivatives of ”Alterity.“ “Alt-Alterity” is a manifesto for the future of coexistence, a way of being in which the notion of “alterity” need not exist, prompting a departure from an anthropocentric perspective to one that values a comprehensive appreciation of planetary diversity and interconnectedness. From December 2023 to February 2024, Alt-Alterity features the creative voices of 26 groups of artists hailing from 13 countries. From the imagination of reversed realities and hybrid forms of existence to the exploration of marginal cultural expressions and the blurred boundaries of fluid identity, we will guide you through the following themes: ”Unsung Wisdom, Rebel Tech“, ”Ephemeral Cycles, Everlasting Collapses“, and ”Fluid Bodies, Blurred Boundaries.“ /Artists Aiping Xu, A.J.
