Exhibition Introduction
In the midst of gathering storms — genocides, wars, forced displacements, global climate collapse, the ascendency of technocracy, alongside the unyielding presence of unjust ideologies such as sexism, racism, colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism — Underground Art And Design (UAAD) introduces their curatorial and editorial initiative, Alt-Alterity. It emerges as a profound and timely attempt to provoke a co-imagination of an alternative paradigm for how humanity engages with both the "other" inhabitants of the planet and "each other" within societies.
Through curating an artistic narrative shared and owned by the fragmented others, reassembled through a decolonial, intersectional, earth-centric vision, Alt-Alterity forges a realm where transformation, comprehension, and the reimagining of “the other” are cultivated. Weaving together a human and more-than-human web of beings within different habitats, communities, lands, and cultures that are often rendered insignificant, non-mainstream, dangerous, hostile, inferior, and silent because of the differences between the established normality, the stories we tell invite you to reflect on the things you don’t know yet and can’t be aware of and also think about your relationship with “the other” and the “unknown others”.
From December 2023 to February 2024, Alt-Alterity features the creative voices of 26 groups of artists hailing from 13 countries. this showcase brings together artworks and artist interviews across cultural, religious, ecological, environmental, industrial, ethical, and personal aspects, trying to understand what knowledge, wisdom, and technology might allow for the reconfiguration of the othered/ the objectified/ the excluded, to tune into dialogues and symbiotic engagements among subjects, and to become otherwise of the prognosis.

Our gallery partner is New Art City, an online multiplayer exhibition space for digital art and performance. Their 3D gallery toolkit allows artists and curators to build new types of exhibition spaces that can be accessed by hundreds of simultaneous visitors from all over the world with no need to register or download anything.
